Sponges Porifera
The sponge collection comprises 344 specimens from all over the world. There are two major collections: one by Paul & Fritz Sarasin from Sulawesi (Celebes) dating from the 1890s, and one by Felix Wiedenmayer from the Bahamas dating from the 1970s.
The type collection consists exclusively of specimens from Sulawesi (Celebes). It was described by Thiele. Parts of the holotypes (Schizotypes) are held at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin.
