Plaster & Gold Crystals of the Basel region

In Switzerland, the mountain cantons of Valais, Bern, Uri, Ticino and Graubünden in particular are known for spectacular mineral discoveries. But also the surroundings of Basel can offer crystal treasures. The exhibition 'Plaster & Gold – Crystals of the Basel region' focused on the finds of our region.

The rock subsoil around Basel is mainly known for its richness in fossils. Much less important are the various minerals and crystals that can be found here. Their diversity is not as great as in the Alps. Nevertheless, the Basel region is richer in minerals than one assumes. The exhibition showed the most important and beautiful minerals of our area, revealed where these minerals can be found and which minerals of the Basel region can be used economically.
