As a state museum of the canton of Basel-Stadt, the Natural History Museum Basel has a wide-ranging remit: it collects, researches, preserves and educates. These tasks are laid down in the cantonal Museums Act.

To successfully meet the demands placed on our museum, its operations are supported by public funds. We use these funds to cover the museum’s operating costs. However, they leave little scope for further educational and project work.

Companies, foundations, private individuals and associations all ensure that the museum can carry out important research projects and undertake special collection work or offer educational and communication services tailored to specific target groups. Financial contributions and material donations are therefore essential if the museum is to function as a modern, forward-looking cultural institution and achieve the recognition it deserves.

There are various ways to support the museum through a financial contribution. We are grateful for any form of support as it allows us to develop new ideas that benefit everyone.
