8.11.2019 – 29.3.2020

Wildlife Photographer of the Year Closed early on 14.3.2020 because of the Coronavirus

The Natural History Museum Basel presented 2019's best wildlife photographs in an impressive and atmospheric exhibition. Breath taking landscapes, surprising animal portraits and dramatic spectacles of nature allowed visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty and magic of nature.

More than 48 000 images were submitted for this year's edition and photographers from more than 100 countries subjected their work for the jury's critical examination. The Natural History Museum Basel has brought the exhibition designed by the Natural History Museum London to Switzerland for the fourth time.

For the second time, the Natural History Museum Basel has held its own photo competition. Amateur photographers were invited to send in their best nature or animal picture. There were tempting prizes to be won from the traditional photo house in Basel, and the competition was supported by OLYMPUS Switzerland. Almost 1,000 pictures were submitted, from which an independent jury selected the ten best entries in three categories.

These photographs will be presented to the public at an award ceremony, as will the winners of the respective categories. The event had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus crisis. However, just like the accompanying exhibition of the best pictures, it will take place as soon as the museum can resume normal operations.
