EARTH AT ITS LIMITS
Our Earth is a very special planet because it can support life. It is simply wonderful in all its diversity, complexity, extraordinariness and mystery. We never cease to be amazed by the dazzling white of Alpine glaciers, by the colourful meadows and lush forests of the mountains and valleys, by the species-rich rain forests and colourful coral reefs. People have been living with and from nature for millennia, but now the balance has shifted and humans and nature have fallen out of step.
EARTH AT ITS LIMITS touched a sensitive nerve of our time and asked: How is our planet? Which natural processes do we influence and what are the consequences for nature and for people? What exactly are the reasons behind the climate crisis, the loss of species and the pollution of waters and the air with microplastics and harmful chemicals?
Human demand for resources, energy and mobility is now influencing our planet’s most important processes and cycles, which puts pressure on natural habitats and ecosystems. In fact, this has brought us to the beginning of a new geological era, known as the human epoch or anthropocene. What are the characteristics of this era? How did we get here and what does it mean for our future?
The special exhibition EARTH AT ITS LIMITS highlighted and illustrated major correlations, clarifies facts and clears up misunderstandings. Numerous interactive presentation formats, audio stations, moving images and varied staging featuring new specimens of objects, collectibles, models and installation art interventions, made visiting the exhibition a stimulating experience.
