DADDY LONGLEGS / HARVESTMEN Opiliones

The collection of daddy longlegs / harvestmen at the Natural History Museum Basel contains not only regional and Central European specimens, but also specimens from expeditions and trips taken in the 19th and 20th century.

Most of the species in the type catalogue come from Sulawesi (formerly Celebes). They were collected by Fritz and Paul Sarasin and studied by Carl Friedrich Roewer. Roewer also examined a series from New Caledonia. Ehrenfried Schenkel described some species from California.

The collection includes a total of 77 samples representing 48 taxa.
